Taiwan has received 192 investment opportunities for various projects from entrepreneurs in China in various sectors like textiles, electronics, services and construction.

From late June, Chinese trade organisations have organized four major trade tours to Taiwan in a bid to explore investment opportunities, which also included a textile industry delegation led by the China Textile Industry Association.

According to statistics, as at the end of 2008, Taiwan businessmen had invested in 2,044 projects in textile and garment industry in Mainland China with the cumulative investment fetching US $1.96 billion.

In January to May this year, Taiwan businessmen invested in 53 Chinese projects with investments exceeding $225 million, of which investments in the textile sector took the major share with 62 percent.

From January to June of this year, imports of Mainland China from Taiwan fell 15.7 percent year-on-year, while exports declined 25.1 percent. Imports of China from Taiwan were mainly textiles, while clothing imports were small.

China also imported a large number of chemical fiber monomer, chemical fiber and textile machinery. This shows that Taiwan has obvious technological superiority in textile industry when compared with the Chinese Mainland.
