On behalf of various Textile Associations, the Federal Advisor on Textiles, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig requested the Governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Mr. Salim Raza to provide relief to the textile industries of the country for delay in shipments due to rains and flood.

Heavy rains and flood made the plants and machinery departments of various industrial units to stop their operations for few weeks. This halt delayed the shipments of various textile industries for June to July 2009.

Dr. Baig informed that he had received representations from various Textile Associations regarding relief. All these associations requested that the shipments of July 2009 be counted in their targets of June 30, 2009, in a bid to meet their SBP export performance target.

Dr. Baig urged the Governor SBP to accept the request of textile associations, considering the twin situations of rains and floods, and other factors including global recession, gas and power load shedding.
