Textile Union launches 'Buy Local' campaign

The Zimbabwe Textile Workers Union have re-launched a campaign to promote domestically produced textile and clothing among the people of Zimbabwe, to save the jobs of thousands of people working in the textile sector.

The union is mainly worried about the large scale influx of textile goods from overseas countries which has led to consumers shifting their preferences to these imported products at a very high cost to the local textile industry.

The union is looking upon the government to save these jobs by announcing good policy measures which will help the industry grow to its pristine levels as well as stem the flow of textile goods in to the country.

They say that imports can be controlled by charging higher customs duty and the government could also help the local industry by subsidizing cotton as well fund the sector to modernise in order to be able to compete with overseas goods.
