Tirupur feels heat of Telangana agitation

Tirupur which is one of the biggest textile and apparel cluster in India is feeling the heat of the turmoil of the Telangana agitation in neighbouring state; Andhra Pradesh, since the major road routes to all the states north of Tamil Nadu pass through Andhra Pradesh.

Trucks loaded with textiles and clothing are stranded along the highways loaded with textiles and clothing and are unable to reach their destinations in various parts of the country.

Transporters too have stopped booking fresh consignments, which is leading to a stockpiling of stocks in Tirupur. It is making retailers jittery since it is the time of Christmas and New Year festivities, when sales pick up.

If this logjam continues for long, the Tirupur knitwear manufacturers fear that they may have to close down their factories, till the problem is resolved, as inventories are piling up, with each passing day.
