Turkish textile workers are on a three-day strike demanding compensation and rights, after suffering from the sometimes-fatal lung disease, in denim sandblasting sweatshops of the country. Turkey is a major denim exporter.

According to solidarity group of denim workers, near about 650 workers have been diagnosed with silicosis, and around 10,000 people still working in the sweatshop workshops are hovering in risk.

A number of workshops are there, which have illegal operations, and those refuse social security of workers as well as their right to seek compensation. Workers in denim sandblasting seek rigorous government checks, disability payments and access to medical treatment.
