Promoters of the controversial and now discarded petrochemical project have termed government policies to be unpredictable and inconsistent.

The Taiwanese government does not have an integrated development plan, which results in numerous policy changes, said the Chairman of Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology Co., Chen Bao-lang.

The Kuokuang Petrochemical project had come under heavy fire from local residents of Changhua county and environmentalists.

They cited heavy environmental damage to the wetlands if the project came through.

President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou's too withdrew support to the controversial project a few days back.

Environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedures need to be revamped to ensure a thorough review of petrochemical projects and to clearly define political responsibility, Chen.
