Surat textile sector to adopt workers welfare measures

Weaving units in Gujarat's Surat city are experiencing labour scarcity over the last several months, owing to which the owners of these units are deliberating to introduce several workers' welfare and benefit scheme to draw more workers to the textile industry.

They propose to provide housing allowance and introduce several other provisions for benefit of workers.

These weaving factories have been facing labour scarcity for over last six months, and have introduced various measures to curb flight of workers to their home towns, and as a part of the same, the weavers association has proposed introduction of some provisions for workers' benefits.

The city known for its thriving textile industry is presently experiencing a dearth of around 200,000 to 300,000 workers.
