Textile workers union rejects High Court judgement

Textile workers in Nigeria have described the decision of the Kaduna Federal High Court to not to ask two textile companies to pay their unpaid dues, as a 'miscarriage of justice'.

The workers had approached the Federal High Court in 2004, when Fintex and Nortex, the two Kaduna-based textile companies refused to pay N2.8 billion towards unpaid salaries and other entitlements of the workers.

Shortly after the High Court judgement, Comrade Issa Aremu, the General Secretary of the textile workers' union, said that the decision “amounted to denial of the workers' rights”.

Mr. Aremu added that the two textile companies owe a debt to the workers and their union rejects the judgement.
