The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the month was estimated at 9.4 per cent—a 0.2 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month’s figure; it was estimated 7.6 per cent for men and 12.9 per cent for women.
The number of employed persons increased by 318,000 to 31.671 million in July compared to the June figure. The seasonally-adjusted employment rate was 48.4 per cent—a 0.5 percentage point increase; it was 65.7 per cent for men, and 31.5 per cent for women.
The number of persons in the labour force was 34.962 million, with a rise of 280,000 persons in July compared to the June figure. The seasonally-adjusted labour force participation rate was 53.4 per cent—a 0.4 percentage point increase. This rate was 71.1 per cent for men and 36.1 per cent for women.
The seasonally-adjusted youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 18 per cent—a 0.3 percentage point decrease compared to the June figure. This rate was estimated 15.2 per cent for men and 23.1 per cent for women.
