Turkiye's unemployment rate drops 0.7 pp YoY to 8.7% in 2024

The unemployment rate decreased by 0.7 percentage points (pp) YoY to 8.7 per cent in the year, it was estimated 7.1 per cent for men and 11.8 per cent for women.

The number of employed persons aged 15 and over increased by 988,000 YoY to 32.62 million last year. The employment rate was 49.5 per cent—a 1.2 pps increase YoY; it was estimated 66.9 per cent for men and 32.5 per cent for women.

The total labour force numbered 35.733 million last year—an increase of 837,000 YoY, and the labour force participation rate was 54.2 per cent—a 0.9 pp increase YoY. This rate was estimated 72 per cent for men and 36.8 per cent for women.

The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 16.3 per cent—a 1.1 pp decrease YoY; it was 13.1 per cent for men and 22.3 per cent for women.

In 2024, 20.7 per cent of all employed was employed in the industry.
