UK employment, unemployment rates increase in Q4 2022 over Q3

Employment and unemployment rates increased in the October-December 2022 period in the United Kingdom compared with the previous three-month period, , according to government estimates, which showed a decrease in the economic inactivity rate during the period. Total hours worked decreased during the period compared with the previous three-month period.

The economic inactivity rate was estimated at 21.4 per cent, 0.3 percentage points lower than the previous three-month period and 1.2 percentage points higher than before the pandemic.

The employment rate was estimated at 75.6 per cent, 0.2 percentage points higher than the previous three-month period and 0.9 percentage points lower than before the pandemic (December 2019 to February 2020).

The unemployment rate was estimated at 3.7 per cent, 0.1 percentage points higher than the previous three-month period and 0.2 percentage points below pre-coronavirus levels.
