The Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, coming up in Warangal district of Telangana, has received environmental clearance (EC), according to media reports. The integrated textile project being set up in 1,200 acres of land acquired by the TS Industrial Infrastructure Corporation will have end-to-end facility for ginning, spinning, weaving, processing and garmenting.

The project will be a major boost for the young state which produces about 60 lakh bales of cotton a year, most of which is sent to adjoining states due to shortage of processing units.

The state government expects skilled workers who migrated from the state to other parts, especially Surat and Bhiwandi, 30 to 40 years ago, to return and seek employment once the park is completed.

Since EC is now in place, the next step would be to set up a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) in public private partnership (PPP) mode.

Some Tiruppur based textile manufacturers have already committed to invest in the textile park. (RKS)
