In the United Kingdom, imports of baby wear reached $434.385 million during the first three quarters of this year. India has become the largest supplier of baby wear to the country, commanding a market share of 23.82 per cent. The top five suppliers—India, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Turkiye—have collectively supplied around 75 per cent of the baby wear to the country.
The UK's baby wear imports from India were valued at $103.474 million during the period under review, accounting for 23.83 per cent of the total import value of $434.385 million. This import value decreased by 9.67 per cent from $114.552 million between January and September 2022, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
The import from China amounted to $94.184 million, constituting 21.68 per cent of the total. The UK's baby wear imports from Bangladesh were $72.507 million (16.69 per cent), from Sri Lanka $67.672 million (15.58 per cent), and from Turkiye $22.796 million (5.25 per cent).
Last year, the UK imported baby wear valued at $712.229 million, with China as the largest supplier, boasting a market share of 23.39 per cent and an inbound shipment valued at $166.577 million. The import from India was $151.092 million, representing 21.21 per cent of the total. Additionally, baby wear imports from Bangladesh were $127.675 million (17.93 per cent), from Sri Lanka $118.406 million (16.62 per cent), and from Turkiye $28.688 million (4.03 per cent), as per TexPro.
The UK's baby wear imports were significantly impacted during 2020, plummeting by 12.07 per cent to $626.479 million from $712.513 million in 2019. However, the inbound shipment improved by 6.06 per cent to $664.459 million in 2021 and further increased by 7.19 per cent to $712.229 million in 2022.
