Highlighting that RMG exports to Brazil currently occur on a limited scale through intermediaries, Sheikh Hasina suggested that direct imports would be more cost-effective for Brazil.
These remarks were conveyed by the PM's speech writer M Nazrul Islam during a briefing to journalists following the meeting.
Emphasising the necessity of maintaining trade balance between Bangladesh and Brazil, Prime Minister Hasina expressed concerns over the existing trade imbalance, which significantly favours Brazil even as to rectify this, she proposed that Brazil diversify its imports from Bangladesh, including products such as jute goods, leather items, and other commodities.
The Prime Minister noted that Bangladesh predominantly imports sugar, soybean oil, and cotton from Brazil but stressed the untapped potential for expanding bilateral trade while underscoring the vast opportunities for enhancing trade relations between the two countries.
The Bangladesh Prime Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Brazil, highlighting the need for concerted efforts to bolster existing relations and explore avenues for collaboration in various sectors.
