The trade has witnessed a recovery after a slowdown last year. According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, Cambodia exported $540.736 million worth of apparel in the first half of 2022, which eased to $536.527 million in the first half of 2023. However, exports rebounded during the same period in 2024. On an annual basis, exports declined from $1,202.083 million in 2022 to $1,124.267 million in 2023. The trade data suggests that Cambodia’s apparel exports to Japan tend to be higher in the second half of the year.
During January-June 2024, trousers and shorts led Cambodia’s apparel exports to Japan, valued at $202.939 million, accounting for 35.78 per cent of the total. The export of T-shirts was valued at $88.392 million, making up 15.58 per cent of total exports. Shirts ranked third in the apparel basket, with a 13.38 per cent share and a value of $75.995 million, according to TexPro.
Among the top ten apparel products, jerseys accounted for $41.163 million (7.26 per cent), innerwear $30.839 million (5.44 per cent), skirts $19.022 million (3.35 per cent), dresses $18.208 million (3.21 per cent), suits $17.031 million (3 per cent), nightwear $16.796 million (2.96 per cent), and jackets & blazers $14.841 million (2.62 per cent).
