  • Cambodia has slipped to the ninth position in Singapore's apparel market, with imports from the country constituting just 1.9 per cent of Singapore's total apparel imports in the first five months of 2023, according to data from TexPro.
  • This marks a significant decrease from 2020 when Cambodia held a 7.63 per cent market share and was 4th largest supplier.
Trade data indicates a waning position for Cambodia in Singapore's apparel market, slipping to the ninth position among Singapore's top apparel suppliers. During the initial five months of 2023, imports from Cambodia accounted for merely 1.9 per cent of Singapore's total apparel imports, a notable decline from its 7.63 per cent share in 2020, a year in which Cambodia was Singapore's fourth largest apparel supplier.

Cambodia was at the ninth position among Singapore's largest apparel suppliers for the period from January to May 2023. Over this span, Singapore's total apparel imports amounted to $890.715 million, with a mere $16.897 million or 1.90 per cent originating from Cambodia, revealed data obtained from Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

Comparatively, in the first five months of 2020, Cambodia enjoyed a healthier share of Singapore's apparel market, with imports valued at $33.199 million, constituting 5.10 per cent of Singapore's total apparel imports of $651.235 million. During 2020, Singapore's annual apparel imports tallied at a substantial $2,047.108 million, of which Cambodia contributed $156.221 million, holding a robust 7.63 per cent share and a ranking of fourth highest supplier, as per TexPro.

However, the following years saw a diminishing stake for Cambodia in Singapore's apparel market. In 2022, the imports stood at $21.846 million for the period of January to May, which declined from $33.199 million in the corresponding period of 2020, and $24.926 million in 2019.

Annual data exhibits a continuous slump in Cambodia's rank and share over recent years. In 2022, Cambodia held the tenth position with a 2.20 per cent share, equating to $51.400 million in value, further slipping to the ninth rank with a 2.66 per cent share, or $50.700 million, in 2021.
