Central & South America's apparel imports witness sudden fall in Sept

Apparel imports of Central and South America witnessed a sudden drop, falling from $792.197 million in August 2022 to $485.579 million in September, the region’s lowest monthly imports in the last one year. The sudden fall reflects the economic adversities seen globally. 

The steep fall in the region’s imports in September shows an unusual trend when compared to the imports during the previous months. The monthly imports were recorded at $752.259 million in July, $710.916 million in June, $670.960 million in May and $672.432 million in April 2022, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. 

Central and South America’s quarterly imports also fell to $2,030.036 million during July-September quarter from $2,054.309 million in April-June and $2,602.073 million in January-March 2022. Quarterly imports were recorded at $2,387.534 million in the fourth quarter, $1,934.293 million in the third quarter and $1,551.020 million in the first quarter of 2021, as per TexPro. 

The total apparel imports of Central and South America for the first nine months of this year amounted to $6.686 billion. They stood at $7.565 billion in 2021, $5.879 billion in 2020, $8.750 billion in 2019, $9.274 billion in 2018 and $8.107 billion in 2017.
