Chile's apparel imports at $2 bn in 2023, dominated by Asian suppliers

In 2023, the South American country of Chile significantly imported apparel valued at $2,034.532 million, with the top ten exporting countries accounting for over 90 per cent of these imports. Notably, Asian countries like China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, India, Cambodia, and Indonesia among these top suppliers were responsible for approximately 85 per cent of the imports, while suppliers from other regions contributed around 5 per cent.

Specifically, China alone accounted for 70.15 per cent of Chile’s imports, with shipments worth $1,472.127 million. Other Asian nations accounted for approximately 15 per cent of the imports. Specifically, Bangladesh was the second-largest supplier with imports valued at $177.906 million, followed by Vietnam at $86.149 million, India at $35.827 million, and Cambodia at $31.274 million. Indonesia with a share of $21.467 million ranked 9th, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

European and American countries contributed a mere 5 per cent to the total of Chile's apparel imports in 2023. Among the top ten suppliers, Spain and Italy were the European contributors. Chile imported apparel from Spain valued at $26.517 million, making it the sixth largest supplier. The imports from Italy were valued at $22.080 million, placing it eighth. As for the American suppliers, Peru ranked seventh with a trade of $25.275 million, and imports from the United States were noted at $19.487 million, ranking tenth among the top suppliers, according to TexPro.
