Cotton & man-made garments dominate Cambodia's exports to Australia

Cambodia exported cotton garments worth $62.605 million to Australia from January to July 2024, representing 54.67 per cent of Cambodia’s total garment exports to the country, which amounted to $114.512 million during the same period. The export of man-made garments was valued at $41.291 million, accounting for 36.06 per cent of the total.

Cambodia also exported wool/animal hair garments worth $1.120 million (0.98 per cent) and silk garments worth $0.018 million (0.02 per cent) to Australia. Additionally, garments made from other fibres amounted to $9.477 million, representing 8.28 per cent of the total exports, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

In comparison, Cambodia exported garments worth $84.360 million to Australia during the same period in 2023. Cotton garments accounted for $46.928 million, or 55.63 per cent of the total. Wool/animal hair garments were valued at $0.530 million (0.63 per cent), while garments made from other fibres reached $8.051 million (9.54 per cent).

For the entirety of 2023, Cambodia exported garments worth $143.359 million to Australia. Of this, $76.721 million was attributed to cotton garments, representing 53.52 per cent of the total. Man-made garments amounted to $50.410 million (35.16 per cent), wool/animal hair garments to $1.077 million (0.75 per cent), and garments made from other fibres to $15.149 million (10.57 per cent), according to TexPro.

An analysis of the product types exported from January to July 2024 shows that Cambodia shipped trousers and shorts worth $27.040 million to Australia, which accounted for 23.61 per cent of the total. Other significant exports included jerseys ($19.974 million or 17.44 per cent), T-shirts ($10.493 million or 9.16 per cent), innerwear ($9.728 million or 8.50 per cent), and baby wear ($9.203 million or 8.04 per cent).
