The UK was the sixth-largest market for Egyptian apparel shipments in 2022 and 2021. However, the country slipped to ninth place in 2023 as shipments to the UK declined that year, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
In 2023, Egypt exported apparel worth $73.393 million to the UK, representing just 3.01 per cent of its total apparel shipments of $2,435.591 million. The UK was ranked as the ninth-largest market for Egyptian apparel exports that year.
In 2022, Egypt’s total apparel exports amounted to $2,437.872 million, with shipments to the UK recorded at $69.660 million, which accounted for 3.99 per cent of the total. The UK remained Egypt’s sixth-largest market that year, the same position it held in 2021, when Egypt exported $68.147 million worth of apparel, representing 3.47 per cent of its total apparel exports of $1,964 million.
Men's garments accounted for 44.72 per cent of Egypt’s total garment exports to the UK during the first 10 months of 2024. Shipments of men's garments were valued at $38.347 million during this period, while shipments of women's garments stood at $32.253 million (37.71 per cent), unisex garments at $15.008 million (17.50 per cent), and children's garments at $142.073 million (0.17 per cent), as per TexPro.
Trade data suggests that trousers and shorts topped the export basket, with exports recorded at $47.293 million, representing 55.15 per cent of total apparel exports to the UK. The shipment value of shirts was $13.331 million (15.52 per cent), T-shirts at $11.655 million (13.59 per cent), jackets and blazers at $6.999 million (8.16 per cent), and ensembles at $1.586 million (1.85 per cent).
