India tops in UK's baby wear imports with 27% share in Jan-Apr 2023

India has emerged as the most favoured nation for importing baby wear by the United Kingdom, as per data from the first four months of 2023. The UK imported baby wear totalling $198.223 million during the period from January to April 2023, with imports from India accounting for $53.618 million. This figure represents 27.05 per cent of the total import volume. 

The UK's imports of baby wear from India rose by 11.19 per cent from $48.223 million during the same period in 2022. However, imports had previously decreased by 21.71 per cent to $52.791 million in the same timeframe in 2020. This was followed by a further reduction of 5.87 per cent to $49.694 million in the same period of 2021 and a drop of 2.96 per cent to $48.223 million in 2022, as per trade data obtained from Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. 

When examining the top five sourcing countries, imports from China stood at $37.270 million, accounting for 18.80 per cent of the total. Shipments from Bangladesh totalled $34.112 million (17.21 per cent), Sri Lanka's imports were worth $31.355 million (15.82 per cent), and those from Turkiye amounted to $10.956 million (5.53 per cent). 

As per TexPro, Imports from other countries included Portugal at $5.041 million (2.54 per cent), Ireland at $3.081 million (1.55 per cent), Cambodia at $2.887 million (1.46 per cent), Spain at $2.440 million (1.23 per cent), and Vietnam at $2.431 million (1.23 per cent).
