Indonesia’s share in total US apparel imports stood at 6.05 per cent of $27.502 billion in the first four months of the current year. It remained the fifth-largest supplier to the US apparel market. This marks an increase from 5.79 per cent during the same period last year, when US apparel imports from Indonesia totalled $1.440 billion out of a total of $24.860 billion, according to sourcing intelligence platform TexPro.
Although Indonesia’s share in the US apparel market reached 6.05 per cent so far this year, it has still not reclaimed its fourth-place ranking. In 2019, US apparel imports from Indonesia totalled $4.562 billion, giving it a 5.22 per cent market share and fourth position among suppliers.
The country managed to retain its rank in 2020 despite a decline in market share. That year, US apparel imports totalled $71.072 billion, with Indonesia accounting for $3.663 billion (5.16 per cent). In 2021, its share shrank further to 5.03 per cent when India overtook Indonesia as the fourth-largest supplier. In that year, the US imported $4.382 billion worth of apparel from Indonesia and $4.490 billion from India, with India’s share rising to 5.15 per cent of total US apparel imports worth $87.183 billion.
Indonesia has since maintained its fifth position, even as its market share fluctuated. In 2022, the US imported $5.912 billion worth of apparel from Indonesia, representing a 5.62 per cent share of the $105.235 billion total. In 2023, Indonesia's exports to the US were valued at $4.345 billion (5.33 per cent), and in 2024 at $3.999 billion (4.78 per cent), as per TexPro.
US total apparel imports stood at $81.508 billion in 2023 and $83.673 billion in 2024.
