Though the Indonesian Government encourages textile entrepreneurs to meet domestic demand, many, instead, choose to export, seeing the new opportunity arising out of the trade war between the United States and China, trade minister Enggartiasto Lukita said recently. The target is to fully meet domestic needs and to take the export value to $30 billion.

The growth of the country’s textile and textile product industry is projected to resurge since both the export market and domestic needs are rising, according to Indonesian media reports.

According to deputy chairman of the foreign trade division at the Indonesian Textile Association Anne Patricia Sutanto, the country’s textile and apparel industry's revenue is only $13 billion. Through the new roadmap, the revenue target for 2025-2035 is set at $30-50 billion. (DS)
