According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, the UK imported apparel worth $4.329 billion in the first quarter of the current year. Italy was the fifth-largest supplier with a market share of 5.76 per cent. The UK's apparel imports from Italy were valued at $249.209 million in the same period.
Italy actually consolidated its position in the UK’s market after a heavy dent in 2022. The country’s share slipped to 4.47 per cent of the UK’s total apparel imports of $24.126 billion. Its rank also slipped to the sixth position as the UK's imports from the partner country were noted at $1.102 billion. Italy’s share grew to 5.25 per cent in 2023 and 5.76 per cent in January-March 2024.
In 2023, the UK imported apparel worth $1.065 billion from Italy, which was 5.25 per cent of its total imports of $20.286 billion. The fashion hub succeeded in improving its rank to fifth among the UK’s top apparel suppliers. However, the improvement of Italy’s position was not as impressive compared to its previous years.
In 2019, Italy was the third-largest market after China and Bangladesh for the UK’s apparel imports. The UK imported apparel worth $1.839 billion from Italy, which was 7.35 per cent of its total imports of $25.024 billion. Italy dropped to fourth place in 2020 and 2021. It further lost ground in the following years. Imports from Italy were noted at $1.520 billion, 6.65 per cent of the UK’s total imports of $22.842 billion in 2020. In 2021, the UK’s garment imports totalled $20.889 billion, while imports from Italy were $1.695 billion (8.12 per cent), as per TexPro.
