Jordan’s apparel exports fell by 26.95 per cent in the first quarter of the current year. Outbound trade decreased to $393.958 million from $538.063 million during the same period last year. Due to this sharp decline, the US’ share surged to 84.96 per cent of Jordan’s total apparel exports. The US is not only the largest market but also the only significant market for these exports.

The US’ share was 75.11 per cent in January-March 2024. Jordan’s apparel exports to the US dropped by 17.18 per cent in the first quarter of this year. Shipments decreased to $334.702 million this year from $404.134 million in January-March 2024. After the US, the prominent markets were Canada, China, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong, each holding a negligible share of Jordan’s apparel exports, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

Jordan’s total apparel exports were valued at $2,417.589 million last year, marking a 12.57 per cent increase from the $2,147.776 million exported in 2023. The country’s outbound apparel shipments were valued at $2,380.972 million in 2022.

During 2024, Jordan shipped garments worth $1,881.120 million, accounting for 77.81 per cent of its total exports in that period.

Jordan imports fabric to support its garment industry, primarily from China and Taiwan. Fabric imports were valued at $129.085 million in the first quarter of this year, a 39.71 per cent decrease from the $214.209 million imported in Q1 2024. China remained the largest supplier, with a market share of 73.29 per cent in total fabric imports. Among the top five suppliers, Taiwan held an 8.85 per cent share, Singapore 5.08 per cent, Sri Lanka 4.16 per cent, and Malaysia 2.47 per cent, according to TexPro.

Jordan’s fabric imports were valued at $1,004.367 million last year, which was 2.52 per cent lower than the $1,030.838 million imported in 2023.
