Kazakhstan sees 5.86% fall in apparel imports for H1 2024

Kazakhstan imported apparel worth $996.113 million during the first half of the current year, marking a 5.86 per cent decrease compared to the $1,058.899 million imported during the same period last year. While China remained the largest contributor to Kazakhstan's apparel imports, its share declined in the first six months of this year.

According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, Kazakhstan's apparel imports from China amounted to $485.762 million in the first half of 2024, representing 48.77 per cent of the total. In the same period last year, imports from China stood at $578.313 million, accounting for 54.61 per cent of the total apparel imports. This marks a drop of around 6 per cent in China’s share compared to the same period last year. The value of apparel imports from China fell by 16.08 per cent during January-June 2024.

China’s share in Kazakhstan's apparel imports had seen a significant rise in recent years. Imports from China were just $181.831 million in 2019, increasing to $194.559 million in 2020, and further rising to $373.934 million in 2021 and $833.354 million in 2022. This trend culminated in a multi-fold surge, reaching $2,393.763 million in 2023.

Interestingly, Kazakhstan’s apparel imports tend to be significantly higher in the second half of the year compared to the first half. In the second half of last year, imports were valued at $2,400.593 million, bringing the total for the year 2023 to $3,459.492 million, as per TexPro.

The imports for 2023 saw a remarkable increase of 108.24 per cent compared to the $1,661.864 million recorded in 2022. This included $469.811 million in the first half and $1,192.053 million in the second half of 2022.
