Kenya continued to outperform on apparel exports despite huge volatility in global trade and economic conditions. After recording impressive growth in apparel exports last year, the country again achieved a growth of 31.37 per cent in shipments during the first two months of the current year. The United States remained the top market, accounting for around 90 per cent of shipments.

Kenya’s apparel exports stood at $67.752 million in January-February 2025, which was more than 31 per cent higher than the exports of $51.479 million in the same period in 2024, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

In 2024, the country exported apparel worth $419.736 million. Shipments grew at a similar pace this year. Kenya’s apparel exports grew by 31.24 per cent in 2024 compared to $319.823 million in 2023. Shipments were noted at $383.882 million in 2021, which increased to $403.823 million in 2022, but then declined by 27.54 per cent to $319.823 million in 2023.

After mild growth in 2022, Kenya’s apparel exports witnessed a steep fall in 2023. However, the country defied economic adversities and recorded impressive growth in trade in 2024.

The US remained the top market for Kenyan exports for several years. In January-February 2025, Kenya exported apparel worth $59.284 million to the US, accounting for 87.50 per cent of total apparel exports. Among other top five markets, Australia, China, Mexico, and Canada contributed around 7 per cent to Kenya’s apparel exports during the period, as per TexPro.

In 2024, Kenya had exported apparel worth $385.700 million to the US, representing 91.89 per cent of its total apparel exports of $419.736 million. Among other top five markets, Canada, France, the Netherlands, and Uganda each contributed less than five per cent.
