Enterprise Mauritius (EM) the apex Trade Promotion Organisation of Mauritius is aiming to reclaim the lost apparel market in Germany, according to media reports. Germany is one of the most successful economies in Europe and is still considered as one of the top 5 export markets for textiles and apparels.

To connect local entrepreneurs with German buyers, Enterprise Mauritius is organising a trade expo titled Contact Promotion Programmes (CPP) in Hamburg and Munich from November 23 to November 27. Fifteen Mauritian companies are participating in the expo.

The organization of this event in Germany and other countries is in line with Enterprise Mauritius' objective of market diversification, visibility enhancement and international exposure to its SMEs.
In the 1990s, Mauritius was a leading exporter of knitwear products and the Germany was the leading buyer of knitwear garments from the Southern African country.

Mauritius has since then diversified its production to other lines such as fine knits, shirts, denims, ladies wear and lingerie or swimwear.

Enterprise Mauritius said it is “motivated to re-kindle interest of German buyers for apparel products from Mauritius & re-position Mauritius as a reliable sourcing destination and to develop an appropriate niche market and increase Mauritian exports to Germany.” (SH)
