The Fiji government has derided a campaign against the islands tourism and clothing industry by Australian trade unions.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions plans to mount a campaign asking its two-million members to boycott Fijian garments and holidays in Fiji.

The Fijian government has termed the campaign as a tool to cripple the country's economy, which would affect the livelihood of thousands of people.

The Australian union gave the call in protest against decrees which have affected the rights and freedom of Fijian workers.
