Garment exports to the US not subject to quota, soared to US $1.1 billion this year, and has boosted the textile and garment sectors, said Le Quoc An, Chairman, Vietnam Textile & Garment Association at a meeting organized by the Ministry of Trade in Ha Noi.

This was a notable in comparison to the four-year back level, when Vietnamese textile and garment industry recorded only $200 million earnings from exporting quota-free products to the US.

Moreover, domestic players were successful in shifting their production to quota-free items to increase exports.

Complaining of allocated quota volumes not matching the market demand, many garment exporters shifted to producing quota-free products to enhance export revenues.

Garment Company 10 started manufacturing quota-free products to compensate quota allocation setback for a tremendous export growth, said Hoang Minh Khang, Director of the Planning Department.
