Concerted efforts help boost Peruvian clothing exports

Concerted efforts in the last two years will ensure that Peruvian clothing exports will touch US $1.5 billion in the current year, up 27 percent from the previous year.

The growth has been made possible on the back of increase in clothing export prices, as volumes are expected to grow by just 1.4 percent.

The massive growth has been made possible on a hike in exports of high-priced classic polos and shirts.

The second reason has been that Peru has diversified its clothing exports to markets like Brazil and Argentina rather than relying on the US, a major market for Peruvian apparel.

Recently, Mario Fiocco – President of National Industrial Society (SNI), a industrial body had said that they hope to match the performance in 2012 too.

Alongside, Peruvian garment producers will also try to boost sales in the domestic market, which is now fully dominated by Chinese apparel makers.
