In 2012, the Indonesian textile and clothing markets will continue to be flooded with imports from China, India, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand, said an expert.

“This is because innovation is very low or nearly nil in the textile and garment industry in Indonesia, said an official of Indonesian Textile Association (API).

Of the overall Indonesian apparel imports, China accounts for 60 percent, India 20 percent, South Korea and Thailand 15 percent each and Vietnam 5 percent.

The official expects clothing imports to grow between 15-25 percent next year.

He also demanded protection of SMEs involved in garment production from flood of imports in the form of anti-dumping duties.
