China remains the largest source of textile and apparel imports of United Kingdom (UK), despite a fall in value and volume of imports in recent years.
But at the same time smaller rivals like Turkey, Bangladesh and a few East European countries are emerging as rivals to China’s numero uno status.
In the last few decades, China emerged as a one-stop source for retailers in UK due to easy availability of raw materials, low wages and many other factors.
But with increasing production costs, Chinese garment products are witnessing a slowdown in UK’s retail markets.
More and more UK retailers prefer to source their requirements from countries in East Europe and Turkey due to their proximity.
