Chinese apparel exports dip in volumes in 2012

Despite a marginal increase in Chinese clothing and accessories export value in the first four months of 2013, volumes fell.

China’s exports of apparel and clothing accessories totaled $40.27 billion from January to April 2012, an increase of 1.77 percent year on year.

However, export volume reached 8.148 billion pieces, down 5.28 percent year on year, according to customs statistics.

Among them, knitwear exports fetched $18.172 billion, an increase of 4.35 percent, while volumes fell 4.04 percent to 5.736 billion pieces.

Shipments of woven garments reached $14.753 billion, down 4.68 percent, while volume stood at 2.412 billion pieces, down 8.10 percent year on year.

The export value of apparel accounted for 56.72 percent of overall textile and garment exports in the period.
