Le Quoc An, President of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) said, Vietnam is planning to rank among top 10 biggest garment maker by 2010.
The export turnover has been targeted at $10 billion, which is five times higher than present.
Vietnam has targetted export turnover at $5.6 billion in 2006.
Vietnam now ranks 16th, among apparel producers and exporters in the world.
The Vietnam National Textile and Garment Corporation (Vinatex) alone had the total export turnover of $1.05 billion in 2005.
Vinatex will focus on pushing up production, building trade marks, and developing domestic and export markets.
Vietnam's development plan for 2006 is to form textile and garment material trading centres, set up several industrial zones specialising in textile and garment and also upgrading of the existing workshops.
It plans to develop about 10 to 20 national brands, of which one or two brands will be made well known abroad.
Vinatex will set up the design and industrial fashion models business centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city.
In the domestic market, Vinatex has developed 28 supermarkets nationwide.
It will gradually expand the network of agents in order to dominate the domestic market.
