Chinese exports of hemp apparel jump over 50% in volume

The volume of Chinese exports of garments made from hemp surged by over 50 percent year-on-year during the first nine months of the current year.
 
From January to September 2012, China exported 2.46 billion pieces of hemp apparels, registering a rise of 56.8 percent year-on-year. In terms of value, the exports fetched US$ 15.507 billion, showing a growth of 49 percent year-on-year.
 
China’s imports of hemp apparels were mere 20 million pieces during the period under review, up 62.64 percent year-on-year. These imports were valued at US$ 450 million, up 48.9 percent year-on-year.
 
Thus, the total hemp clothing foreign trade of China during the nine-month period was 2.48 billion pieces, an increase of 56.85 percent year-on-year. The value of overall imports and exports of hemp garments was approximately US$ 15.956 billion, which is a rise of 49.09 percent year-on-year.
