The year 2012 was not good for China’s garment industry and doubts arose over survival of several enterprises.

The sales of over 14,328 large-scale apparel enterprises increased by only 10 percent year-on-year in January to September, which was 3 percent lower than the growth in sales observed at the beginning of the year.

From January to November 2012, China’s overall textile and apparel exports earned US$ 230.827 billion, achieving a growth of 2.08 percent year-on-year, which was 0.08 percent more than the 2 percent growth in January to October period.

China’s textile and apparel industry as a whole stabilized in the third quarter, and some indicators improved in the fourth quarter. However, sales conditions throughout the entire textile and clothing manufacturing chain are yet to recover.

In the present scenario, operating pressure will persist and China’s garment exports are likely to maintain slow growth rate.
