The Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bangladesh (NCCI), a joint initiative of the Nordic Companies and Embassies in Bangladesh, has urged Swedish buyers to procure more from Bangladeshi garment manufacturers to further improve the lives of the workers.

During the visit of first-ever Swedish trade delegation to Bangladesh, NCCI president Arild Klokkerhaug said the garment sector has given employment opportunities to several people in Bangladesh, who were earlier working in households.

He said the standard of living of people in Bangladesh has risen due to the increase in apparel manufacturing activity in the country, and Swedish buyers should consider purchasing more from Bangladesh.

The 21-member Swedish trade delegation, led by State Secretary to the Minister for Trade Gunnar Oom, was on a two-day visit to Bangladesh.

Sweden’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Anneli Lindahl Kenny described the South Asian nation as a dynamic country with plenty of business opportunities and urged the representatives of Swedish companies to identify long-lasting business opportunities in Bangladesh.
