The exports of apparels from Latin American nation of Paraguay increased by 161.3 percent year-on-year in February 2013, according to a report released by the Asociación Industrial de Confeccionistas del Paraguay (AICP or Tailoring Industry Association of Paraguay).

Paraguay exported US$ 5.557 million dollars of garments in February 2013, compared to exports worth US$ 2.742 million in January 2013, AICP said.

The association said 86 percent of all Paraguayan garment exports during February were destined to Brazil, while another 10 percent were to Argentina. The remaining four percent of exports were to Mexico, Spain, Germany, Uruguay, the UK and the US.

The sharp rise in apparel exports in February is in contrast to January when clothing exports fell 99.5 percent year-on-year.

Last year, Paraguayan apparel makers were hit by the measures adopted by the Argentine Government to safeguard its domestic industry.

AICP members account for over 60 percent of all clothing produced in Paraguay, and they also contribute a major share in the country’s total apparel exports.
