RMG workers to go on strike on March 2

Bangladesh Garment Workers Trade Union Centre (BGWTUC) has called for a days strike on March 2 to protest against factory owners' failure to provide safety to workers and asked for Motiur Rahman Nizami's resignation from his post.

The BGWTUC organised a rally to protest against the recent against accidental deaths in KTS garments in Chittagong and Phoenix garments in the capital and other garment factories across the country.

The fire in KTS garments in Chittagong and the collapse of Phoenix garment's building in Dhaka left at least 73 workers dead. Compensations for victims' families was also demanded.

Application of factory and institution laws, labour laws and International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions was demanded to be implemented in every garment factory of the country.

BGWTUC General Secretary Ruhul Amin, and leaders Sadekur Rahman Shamim and Iqbal Hossain, Communist Party of Bangladesh leader Abdul Zabber and Krishak Samity leader Sazzad Jahir Chandan also put forward their views at the rally.
