In January 2006, Swedes spent US $1.31 million on importing leather accessories like handbag, backpack, wallet, cap and umbrella from Vietnam, recording 217.78 percent rise over same period last year, as well as the highest growth since over past year, industry source said.
Among these Vietnamese goods exported to Sweden, backpacks remained at the top, earning $856,000 in January.
Export price of backpack to the market depends on material, style and quality ranging from $10 to 20 per piece on average (accounting for 37 and 36 percent of exporting revenues and value in January 2006, respectively); even $59.92 per piece (high quality ones) and less $5/ piece (poor quality) were sold, statistics revealed.
Bags of all types generated export turnover worth $341,000 in January, of which, $120,000 alone was for nylon bags for supermarket usage and $50,000 from handbags and camera covers.
In 2005, export turnover of these goods to Sweden earned Vietnam $8.65 million, contributing 1.85 percent of the entire export revenue kitty of the country.
