Bangladesh sets $30.5bn export target for 2013-14

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Commerce has set US$ 30.5 billion as export target for fiscal year 2013-14 that began on July 1, 2013.
 
Last fiscal, Bangladesh exported US$ 27.02 billion worth of goods, which was less than the export target of US$ 28 billion set by the Ministry. 
 
Readymade garments, including knitwear and woven apparels, would be given a special priority for exports during the current fiscal, according to a statement.
 
For the current fiscal year, the export growth for woven garments in estimated at 13.87 percent, while knitwear exports are projected to grow at 15.5 percent. Home textiles exports are expected to grow by five percent year-on-year.
 
In 2012-13, Bangladesh exported garments worth US$ 21.515 billion, registering a growth of 12.7 percent over exports of US$ 19.089 billion made during the previous fiscal, according to the data from the Export Promotion Bureau.
 
Among garments, woven apparel exports rose by 14.96 percent year-on-year to US$ 11.039 billion during the year, while knitwear exports grew by 10.43 percent year-on-year to US$ 10.475 billion.
