Bangladesh garment exports surge 26.13% in July 2013

The exports of readymade garments from Bangladesh surged by 26.13 percent year-on-year during the first month of the ongoing Bangladeshi fiscal year 2013-14, according to the data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
 
During the month, Bangladesh exported US$ 2.51 billion worth of garments, including woven apparel and knitwear, compared to US$ 1.99 billion worth of exports made during the corresponding month of last fiscal.
 
Woven garment exports soared by 27.02 percent year-on-year to earn US$ 1.26 billion for Bangladesh, while knitwear exports jumped 25.24 percent year-on-year to fetch US$ 1.25 billion, during the month, EPB data showed.
 
However, home textiles exports declined by 16.76 percent to US$ 68.15 million, as against exports of US$ 81.87 million made during the same period of last fiscal year.
 
Exports of jute and jute products showed a marginal rise of 2.10 percent year-on-year in July 2013, and grew to US$ 80.15 million.
 
Owing to the sharp rise in apparel export earnings, Bangladesh’s overall exports rose by nearly 24 percent year-on-year during the month to US$ 3.02 billon.
 
In fiscal year 2012-13, the exports of readymade garments earned US$ 21.515 billion in foreign exchange for Bangladesh, showing an increase of about 12.7 percent over exports of US$ 19.089 billion made during the corresponding period of 2011-12.
 
Woven apparel exports rose by 14.96 percent year-on-year to US$ 11.039 billion during July-June 2012-13, while knitwear exports grew by 10.43 percent year-on-year to US$ 10.475 billion.
