Bangladesh apparel exports to India rise 36.7% in FY'13

The exports of apparel from Bangladesh to neighboring India increased by about 36.7 percent year-on-year to US$ 75.213 million during Bangladeshi fiscal year 2012-13, according to the data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
 
In fiscal year 2011-12, Bangladesh’s garment exports to India were valued at US$ 55 million.
 
Bangladeshi clothing exports to India increased after Indian Government announced duty-free, quota-free access to 46 textile tariff lines of greatest sensitivity to Bangladesh in September 2011.
 
In fiscal year 2011-12, Bangladesh’s exports of woven & knitwear garments to India registered an increase of 53 percent compared to 2010-11.
 
Woven apparel constituted a major chunk of Bangladeshi exports to India, and accounted for US$ 60.869 million during 2012-13, the EPB data showed.
 
Knitwear exports from Bangladesh to India were worth US$ 14.344 million during the July-June 2012-13 period.
 
Bangladesh is currently India’s largest trading partner among SAARC countries, and the country’s overall exports to India grew at 13.15 percent year-on-year to US$ 563.9 million in 2012-13.
