Over 50 percent of Peruvian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), including apparel, export their products to markets in Latin America, as it is least affected by the global economic crisis, according to Roberto Molero, manager of department of SMEs, Association of Exporters (ADEX) in Peru.

The ADEX official said the SMEs in the country concentrate their exports to priority markets in Latin American regions as they do not want to lose opportunities for international trade, reports Peruvian newspaper El Peruano.

The situation would be continuing until next year when the economy of the US and European countries show signs of recovery, he added.

Mr. Molero said that nearly 2,880 SMEs in the country concentrate their exports and conduct international trade with markets in Latin American regions.

As these markets provide a platform for Peruvian SMEs to consolidate more exports, it prepares them to diversify their export markets and explore more regions, he added.

Furthermore, Mr. Molero said the SMEs should be included in the chain of suppliers for large companies to promote sustainability and development in the Peruvian market.

The SMEs should be prepared to compete in order to secure better positions in the international markets, once they recover, he added.
