Turkey's clothing exports rise 8.5% in Jan-Sept 2013

The apparel exports from Turkey has increased by 8.5 percent year-on-year to US$ 12.95 billion in the first nine months of 2013, as per the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Association (ITKIB).
 
According to ITKIB data, Turkey exported garments worth US$ 12.95 billion in the period of January to September 2013, whereas garment exports touched US$ 11.95 billion during the same period last year.
 
The highest exports were from the category of knitted apparel and clothing accessories, the exports of which touched US$ 6.88 billion in January to September 2013, followed by woven apparel and clothing accessories which amounted to US$ 4.3 billion, and other items and household textiles category with US$ 1.5 billion.
 
Germany was the top apparel importer from Turkey with apparels worth US$ 2.79 billion imported from the country during the first nine months of 2013, indicating an increase of 8.3 percent year-on-year. Turkey exported apparel goods worth US$ 2.57 to Germany during the same period last year.
 
Exports of Turkish apparel to the UK touched US$ 1.5 billion in the January to September period, garment exports to Spain amounted to US$ 1.08 billion, apparel exports to France reached US$ 846 million, garment exports to the US were worth US$ 336 million and apparel exports to Italy amounted to US$ 534 million during the first nine months of the current year.
 
According to the ITKIB data, 75 percent of apparel exports from Turkey were destined to countries in the European Union (EU) during the January to September period in the current year.
