Nepali ready-made garment export to the US has been declining continuously to $2.49 million in August 2006 from $2.70 million compared to same period last year.
Nepal has exported only 7,633 kg of ready-made garment in August 2006 as against 16,951.50 kg worth $3.9 million in July 2006, informed Garment Association of Nepal (GAN).
In June ready-made garment exports rose 28 percent, in May it reported 33 percent increase while in April it plummeted 59 percent.
This sharp decline in exports is mainly due to duty and quota free market access provided by the US to the African and Caribbean countries.
Government failed to persuade US congress for duty-free market access for Nepali ready-made garment to the US, complained GAN members.
