Quota on Chinese clothing imports fails to boost sector

After quota imposition on clothing imports from China, domestic manufacturers have significantly increased their production, but failed to boost the sector.

Although production has increased, no major capital investment has been witnessed.

Experts are also doubtful of any further rise in employment, but expect a clear picture once retailers start placing orders for summer.

Although quotas were expected to create more employment, imports from other low cost Asian producers started to enter market.

This quota has clearly benefited textile manufacturers, but some of them like fabrics were affected as they were not manufactured locally.

Moreover, relationship between retailers and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) also improved as they got on with job of doing business.
