VISAKHAPATNAM:

Regular flow of orders from abroad coupled with exporters at Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi not able to fulfill orders placed with them by foreign agencies, will hopefully help in establishing all 50 units at Apparel Export Park situated at Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) by end of 2007-08.

Export agencies at Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi facing huge shortage of workforce are unable to cater to huge demand to supply garments and this is making them turn to Apparel Park at Visakhapatnam.

Swarna Apparels and Hirawath Textiles at the Export Park employing around 300 and 200 workers respectively have bagged orders from the US to supply 5,000 pieces of male and female garments.

Garment manufacturers have been allotted 71 plots at the export park of which around 45 units will be established soon with five to be commissioned by April-end. The five units are Shivaram Apparels, Avinesh Apparels, Chandu Apparels, Sai Teerdha Apparels and Maheshwari Apparels.

All the 72 units have been sold out, and the Park will function to its full capacity in one year.

Deputy Director (Handlooms & Textiles) Srikanth Prabhakar informed that these units would help to generate employment for at least 10,000 women workers.

The Apparel Park employs large number of women paying them a minimum wage of Rs3,000 to Rs5,000 based on their performance, Prabhakar said.

Each unit involves an investment of around Rs1 crore having a minimum of 100 machines. Around 10 to 15 garments are produced by each machine per day.
