Last year, growth rate of apparel exports to US stood second after Indonesia compared to previous year.

During this year, Indonesia emerged as biggest apparel exporter to US after reaching US $3.76 billion, a growth rate of 27.57 percent.

Similarly, Bangladesh exported apparel worth $2.91 billion at a growth rate of 22.87 percent followed by Cambodia at $2.13 billion (24.69 percent).

As quotas are eliminated after becoming member of WTO, exports of Vietnam also reached $3.22 billion, a surge of 18.26 percent.

Experts believe that Bangladesh will have to face tough competition from Vietnam because of its same productivity and competitiveness as China has.

Due to increase in demand for cheap apparels, domestic products have created strong market in US.

In spite of potential market, various limiting factors are threatening long-term sustainability of the garment industry.

Textile industry generates annual export revenue of $8 billion by shipping goods mainly to US and Europe.
